Prologue

There always has to be somebody who takes responsibility for our sins. When I was a child, I thought it was God. When I didn’t believe in God anymore, there was a time when I thought others would take the blame. Now I know it is me, and no one but me. Everything else is a lie, and lying is a sin. . .

 ~ Interview ~

Charlie: Hello, thank you for this interview, how are you?
Angelina J. Steffort: I am fine, thank you, Charlie, and not as sleep
deprived as the past few months. And how are you?
C.: I’m well, I guess, the small one keeps you up. Can you tell us more about yourself?
A.: What to say…I am probably not your stereotypical writer. My educational background is in electrical engineering, music and business. The writing was never part of my life plan. I can’t resist chocolate, weird
animals are my favorite (sting ray, axolotl, tapir and kiwi), and when I have coffee I wish I could bath in the milk foam instead of drinking it
C.: My first question will be, when did you first start writing?
A: As a child in school we had a lot of assignments in creative writing, but I never particularly liked it. I started working on my first book in 2010, wrote 16 pages and quit because the idea for The Wings Trilogy came to my mind. Seven months later the book was finished (and another seven years later I finally found the courage to publish).
C.: Do you remember the first story you ever read and the impact it had on you?
A: No. But then, I never enjoyed reading as a child. What did have an impact later in life was Kafka’s Transformation.
C.: Why did you write this book and what are your expectations on its behalf?
A: At that time I was travelling a lot for business and studies. I couldn’t make music the way I had before (I had conducted a choir) and apparently needed a new creative outlet. I was working unsuccessfully on a high fantasy story when I had the idea for White, and I just knew it would be the first book in a trilogy. As for the expectations, I am humbled by what has been happening since the book release. White has been on the bestseller list on the German Amazon in its categories for a few weeks now. The book is getting great reviews and is climbing reading lists on Goodreads. If I could wish for anything it would be that the story will bring joy and tears to a lot more readers throughout its lifespan. Letting people escape reality and giving them space to dream is what I am hoping to achieve. And a movie deal
C.: What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
A: Writing is like watching a movie in my head and taking notes. My characters never cease to surprise me, and I can never predict what they are going to do next. It never gets boring. If my stories make only one person happy, it’s worth writing them.
C.: What motivated you to become an indie author?
A: I never really considered going the traditional route without proving the market for my work. In my day job, I work a lot in innovation and with startups. I am used to the risk of that pre-investment or early
investment phase. A traditional publisher is an investor and an investor is
always seeking to minimize risk. So I am using book one of The Wings Trilogy to show that there is a market, and want to work with
an agent and publishing house for the rest of the trilogy.
C.: When youre not writing, how do you spend your time?
A: I have a 6 months old son. He is the priority.
C.: What are you working on next?
A: I am finishing books two and three of The Wings Trilogy at the moment. Next will be a book for a slightly younger target group. And eventually, I will pick up the initial 16 pages of the high fantasy story and make it work. I won’t give up.
C.: Can you describe your desk?
A: I don’t have a desk. I write everywhere but at a desk — floor, train, aeroplane, couch, coffee house, bed, you name it
C.: Thank you for the interview. Good luck with the book.
A.: Thank you, Charlie. It was a pleasure chatting with you today.
C.: Today we had an interview with Angelina J. Steffort, whose debuted with a fantastic novel White! Don’t miss your chance to read it, it’s absolutely fantastic, and I’ll be soon posting the review of it on the blog, But you don’t need to take my word for it, check it out yerself!
